Holding Faith in Marriage

Is holding onto your marriage feel like a spiritual battle?

Do you feel like you need to carry your marriage?

Are you trying to do everything you can to change your situation?

Are you feeling desperate?

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

1. Am I letting them (my spouse) choose?

Every person is responsible for their own choices and God will not take away a persons free choice. "Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord." Lamentations 3:40

2. The days are evil. Have I got the right words to say?

"Therefore the prudent will keep silent in such a time, for it is an evil time. Seek good and not evil that you may live." Amos 5:13

3. Have I asked God to take up my cause?

"The Lord works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed." Psalm 103:6.

4. Where does my strength come from to fight this fight?

"The Lord is my strength and my song, he has become my salvation." Psalm 118:14

5. If I had to choose between God and my spouse, who would I choose?

"Choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the river, or the gods of the amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15.

6. How will God work out the details? Will he use me?

"For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure." Philippians 2:13

7. Am I telling myself the truth?

"Therefore having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak truthfully with his neighbour, for we are members one of another." Ephesians 4:25

8. Do I really believe it?

"Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." Mark 11:24

Take a little time alone to search your heart - whether it be your part to change the marriage and if so how?

Wisdom is given to those who are willing to listen to the counsel of the Lord.
